About the event

Victorian Kickboxing Open 2024

The Victorian Open is a great introductory comp for new athletes to the WAKO rule set and a great preparation for November's Nationals and Team Selections!

Foam Sword is a battle between two athletes both protected by headgear trying to strike the other with a foam sword. The first to 5 points or highest score at the end of the round (90 seconds) is the winner. You can strike the legs, body and head but not the spine.

Pointsfighting is a style of Kickboxing that rewards speed and efficiency. You can strike the body and head with your hands or feet to score. After each score the athletes are brought back to the middle to start again. The winner is the athlete with the highest score at the end of 3 90 second rounds or whoever gets a 10 point gap on their opponent first.

LC (Light Contact) is a continuous Kickboxing style that is scored by centre and corner judges. Athletes wear foam boots with TKD style shin guards, a head guard, 10oz gloves and shin guards and score with punches and kicks to the body and head. This is a semi-contact style. The winner is decided by judges after 3x90 second rounds with 30 second breaks. You need the majority of judges to have scored the match for you to win.

KL (Kick Light) is a kickboxing style that is continuous and similar to LC is scored by judges. The only difference being that you can attack with leg kicks. Athletes wear foam boots with TKD shin guards, thai style shin guards can be used if both athletes wear the same, 10oz gloves and a head guard. Bouts are 3x2 mins with a 1 minute rest.

All divisions require mouthguards. We will endeavour to match athletes closest to the weight and height and exp as we can on the day.
